Alabama Comic Con rescheduled due to uncertainty caused by COVID-19

For Immediate Release – May 4, 2020

Alabama Comic Con has been canceled for 2020 due to an abundance of caution for our attendees, guests, vendors, artists, and volunteers and the uncertainty in scheduling and planning caused by COVID-19. We have been monitoring the local and national news and relevant state health department updates, speaking with officials at the BJCC, and watching and reading all media outlets in regards to the most up-to-date COVID-19 information.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced on April 28th that the state would begin reopening the economy in a series of phases beginning April 30th at 5 P.M., easing restrictions set in place to limit the impact of the coronavirus. However, the Order of the State Health Officer Suspending Certain Public Gatherings Due to Risk of Infection by COVID-19 (which is applicable statewide) was amended on April 28, 2020, and all non-work related gatherings of 10 persons or more, or non-work related gatherings of any size that cannot maintain a consistent six-foot distance between persons from different households, are prohibited. Our type of event is also considered a high-risk activity according to the state government.

The current order is to remain in effect until May 15th unless otherwise amended. Because of the uncertainty of whether or not this order would extend into the dates of the AVC Conventions event, we were forced into the cancellation, but have already rescheduled.

“After speaking extensively with the management at the BJCC,  we have rescheduled Alabama Comic Con for June 5-6, 2021. A date for this year was unavailable as we have another event at the BJCC on October 16-18, My Hero Convention. At the end of the day, the safety of everyone involved with our event is the main priority,” said AVC Conventions co-owner Greg Hanks. Refunds for Alabama Comic Con will begin to be processed immediately.
